Requirements to obtain a Long Term Resident(eligibility for becoming a settler):

 

‡@As stipulated in the Settler Notification.

 

‡AIndividuals who meet the following requirements and have good conduct:
@i1jA person who is the biological child of someone born as a Japanese individual.
@i2jThe direct grandchild of someone who was born as a Japanese individual but@
renounced their Japanese nationality.
@i3jSpouse of an individual who resides with a status of residence as either "i1j" or as
a "Long-Term Resident"with a designated period of stay of one year or more.

@i4jUnmarried minors who are financially supported by their biological parent, who is a
"Long-Term Resident" with a designated period of stay of one year or more.

This applies to individuals falling under categories (1), (2), or (3).

 

‡BA person who has been recognized as a refugee.

 

‡CAn individual who, even after divorcing a Japanese spouse or a spouse who is a "permanent resident" or a "special permanent resident", wishes to continue residing in Japan.

 

Requirements
@i1jAn individual who is generally recognized as having a continued and normal marital
relationship and family life in Japan for a period of approximately three years
or more.

@i2jHaving sufficient assets or skills to sustain a livelihood.
@i3jHaving a Japanese language proficiency that allows for a comfortable daily life and
not being considered unable to participate in social activities.
@i4jBeing in compliance with or expected to fulfill obligations such as tax payment and
other duties.

 

‡DAn individual who wishes to continue residing in Japan even after the death of their
Japanese spouse or the death of their spouse who is a "permanent resident" or a "special
permanent resident".
@i1jAn individual who is recognized as having had a continued and normal marital
relationship and family life in Japan for a period of approximately three years or
more prior to the death of their spouse.
@i2jHaving sufficient assets or skills to sustain a livelihood.
@i3jHaving a Japanese language proficiency that allows for a comfortable daily life and
not being considered unable to participate in social activities.
@i4jBeing in compliance with or expected to fulfill obligations such as tax payment and
other duties.
@i5jA person who is responsible for the custody and upbringing of their child who
holds Japanese nationality.
