This is a residency status for engaging in work that requires a certain level of specialized technical knowledge and expertise that can only be acquired through majoring in science subjects at a university or many years of practical experience.

Foreign nationals engaged in humanities-related activities that require a certain level of specialized knowledge in fields such as "Accounting," "Finance," "General Administration," "Accountancy," "Consulting,"and similar academic backgrounds are classified under this category.

Encompasses foreign nationals engaged in humanities-related activities that require a certain level of specialized skills based on their thinking or sensitivity rooted in foreign cultures. It includes activities such as "Translation," "Interpretation," "Language Instruction," "Public Relations," "Advertising," "International Trade," "Design," "Product Development," and similar fields. These activities require a certain level of professional competence in humanities and social sciences.

Required documents

The required documents for applying for the "Engineer" residency status may vary depending on the institution to which the applicant belongs.

The applicant's affiliated institution is categorized into four types: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, and Category 4. The specific required documents may differ based on these categories.

Category 1・・・(1)Companies listed on Japanese stock exchanges.
         (2)Mutual companies engaged in the insurance business.
         (3)National or local government entities in Japan or foreign
            countries.
         (4)Independent administrative agencies.
         (5)Special corporations and authorized corporations.
         (6)Public interest corporations in Japan and local government
            entities.
         (7)Public corporations listed in Schedule 1 of the Corporation Tax
            Law.
Category 2・・・Organizations or individuals with withholding tax statements for salary income in the
                total summary table of statutory reports for the previous year, where the total amount
                of withholding tax exceeds 15 million yen.
Category 3・・・Organizations or individuals (excluding Category 2) who have submitted the total
                summary table of statutory reports for salary income withholding tax statements of
                their employees for the previous year.
Category 4・・・Entities or individuals who do not fall under any of the aforementioned categories.
